Either it's nostalgia kicking in or this place is slipping a little. I used to go this place around once a month in 2011 but gave up the 40 minute treck in 2012. I used to like this place because it was a quality parma which at a $2 option could be topped with Kangaroo. These days the parma is still good (Chicken was a little dry) but the Kangaroo option is overcooked and leathery (at least this time it was). I'd give them a bonus point but in my opinion they lost a point by serving it with fries. I also gave them a poor score in the chip department because ... well ... fries aren't chips.

Couldn't fault this parma, the breast was exquisitely cooked and was thick and juicy, the sauce was tasty and distrubuted well across the whole breast, cheese was nicely melted, chips were good and salad a great accompanyment... The welcome addition of ham as always gets the bonus, and a mate tried the kangaroo (instead of ham) option which he continues to rave about! If you're in the area make this your number 1 parma destination. P.S. loved the old school Fitzroy memorabilia

This was a very good Parma served in a very well run and well kept hotel. The two downsides are 1/ Chips are the shoestring variety 2/ They were served under the Parma ....but in fairness there was nowhere else to put them as the breast was so large But overall a very pleasent expireance

Plus 1 for the use of smoked kangaroo instead of ham. Not only was it a delicious combination but the kangaroo was the most tender kangaroo I've ever eaten. The size was not the largest I've had but combined with the quantity of kangaroo on top it was enough to give me a slight waddle in my step afterwards. We also tried the regular parma with ham and, whilst good, it was no where near the awesomeness that is the kangaroo parma. I would definitely rate it as one of the best parmas I have ever eaten.

Immediately on finding this place, it became the Friday usual lunch spot, it's that good. The parma at the Napier is easiest the best one anywhere nearby, and we've tried a lot nearby! Extra point for the awesome staff and place itself.

This was INCREDIBABLE, a Parma like this is an experience i will not soon forget. Very nice meal, good size and service was fine too. Upsides: Awesome parma, tender not over cooked, loads of flavour with each bite melting in your mouth. Down Sides: Chips skinny fries :( not my thing BONUS POINT: for the Roo topping, you get a choice of Roo and Ham, go the Roo it was a lot better than my choice of Ham, which was great aswell. Glad the Mrs let me steal some of hers.

The napier have this incredible kangaroo parma. It's a parma, but instead of ham, they put smoked kangaroo under the cheese. The thing is HUGE and a the sauce is good. I've been there dozens of times for this epic aussie dish. The only complaint is the chips are thin fries, but hey, that's just my preference. Seriously worth a go, especially if you're hungry. Great job!!!

I want to give this parma a higher rating, it had all the potential to be fantastic, but on the night there was just a few little let downs. Firstly, our meals took a loooong time to come out. This would not have been as bad if it wasn't that they served half the table and then the other half an hour later. The people who were served first didn't even order first, so that was frustrating and hence the -1. I was then disappointed to see when my parma came out that it was quite overcooked, this is what stopped the parma itself from getting some perfect marks, because it tasted FANTASTIC. As others have mentioned, you can get it with Roo meat instead of ham, THIS IS A MUST! IT WAS AWESOME! Fries were great but I prefer steak cut chips. I would happily go there again but not if I'm in any sort of hurry.

I was starving when we reached the Napier Hotel, due our intended pub not having an affordable vegetarian alternative for my dining companion of the evening. Overall, this is quite a good parma. While not the biggest parma, the selling point is the ability to option up Kangaroo meat as the topping, and a wonderful helping of fries and salad. The meat was a good size. Quite large, slightly smaller than a "4", but larger than a "3.5". Thickness was quite good as well, without being overboard. Unfortunately, the skin was burnt on the bottom. I didn't mind it all that much, but it still deserved one or two points off, as it wasn't perfect. The parts of the skin that was not too burnt was okay, above average. As mentioned above, the topping was pretty good, it was a cheesy topping with minimal nap sauce. The lack of nap sauce wasn't too bad though, as it would have drowned out the taste of the roo meat. The roo meat was quite good, it's enjoyable having more than one meat on your parma! Cheese tasted pretty good too, above average quality for sure! Fries were served mostly underneath the parma, but I didn't mind this time because the plate was filled with food. I moved the parma over the best I could. The fries were above average too. Some were a little soggy (even though they weren't buried underneath the parma), and some were burnt on the ends. I really shouldn't pick on it though, it's a good solid serving of fries. The only way it could have improved on this criteria was if chips were served, cooked perfectly, and if something like chicken salt was (sparingly) used. Not too bad on the chip component I say! Salad was awarded top marks. That's quite a few pubs which have exceeded my expectations of salad now. The dressing was good, had a hint of natural mustard seeds on it, without it feeling too greasy. Huge serving of salad, it's good that they care about you having a balanced diet. I don't think putting the salad in a bowl would have helped, as the character of the dish would be just different! Top marks here. Overall, good feed, and a nice, balanced meal, with the focus being on the slab of meat. They cook the roo perfectly here, while slightly tough, it's still juicy. The pub interior itself was a little bit hippie, which might throw some off, but I didn't mind. If I lived in Fitzroy, this would probably be my usual parma.

Parma was good with a choice of ham or smoked roo, but the dish violated rule #5 by serving fries instead of chips.
