Parma consumed on 31 December 2014. After bemoaning the fact that the last few parmas I've had came close to $20, I decided to give this one a go, and boy, was I pleasantly surprised! The star attraction for this parma was the double-salad. There was the usual leafy-type salad, but this one also had some pasta salad next to it as well. First impressions count - the serving size was very decent for the $11 I forked out. It was made sweeter due to the free middy as part of the meal special. The surprise pasta salad was also a nice touch! The meat was of good quality, the crumbing perhaps less crispy that in should be. A decent parma, though the serving size of the chicken could be a little larger. The topping could be improved - while the sauce was good, the cheese could be of a higher quality and it could be toasted a little better. I appreciate that it's a fine line between toasting cheese and burning cheese, but it's gotta be done. There was a decent serving of chips, and I suspect they were beer bettered. Very very nice. The salads were good - perhaps they could have done with a little more dressing. Fresh ingredients were used. The pasta salad was a pretty nice touch. Overall, this parma could have been improved by: serving the two salads in a different bowl, toasting the cheese a little better, using a slightly bigger piece of chicken, and perhaps trying to make the crumbs a bit more crunchy. However, all the negatives should be viewed in the (overwhelmingly) positive price point of the parma on special. Just a little more polish, chef, and you'll have a hell of a contender - perhaps one of the better pound-for-pound parmas running around.

    Bruski reckons:

The parmy this week was medium in size, but quite thick and juicy. The crumbing was consistent, had a nice spread of thinly sliced ham, a tasty yet bit too tomatoey sauce and a nicely grilled cheesy topping. The chips were nice and crunchy, maybe slightly overcooked, but there was not enough of them. The salad was a bit limp with an interesting caesar dressing. Overall, not bad, but could have been a little cheaper.

I chose the vegie option this time and loved them! There were all the usual vegies - carrots, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower and corn. The few chips that were there were a bit soggy and plain. The parmy was of a good size with heaps of cheese, ham and tomato topping. The parmy was a bit soggy and thick in some places. If the crumbing was crunchier they wouldve received a higher scoring. The Star looks as though it has been renovated recently and looks really good - athough all the other times I have been there I have been really drunk so may have not noticed.

Certainly not the biggest serving size, especially for $19, luckily there were plenty of chips & vegies to make up for it. The chicken was cooked well, but the crumb was falling off a bit, and the sauce was a bit too acidic. I had to smother it in gravy to drown out the taste. Nice venue though!
