Monday Night $12.00 parma special at the Royal Hotel, Footscray. Sides (mash, salad, potatoes) $3.50 extra. The night started off well when we were told that we could option "mashed potatoes" with our parma! Yummo! This parma gets a +1 just for this! Five minutes before the meal, my dining buddy and I received a warm bread roll with butter. Excellent! The size of the parma was average, actually, considering the other parmas it's up against. Not too big, not too small. I would award it a 3.5 if I could, but alas, no cigar. The meat was of pretty good quality, pretty similar to the Brandon Hotel in Carlton for your reference. The crumbing is where this parma shines above all others. It stayed CRISPY even after we attacked other portions of the dish. Compliments to the chef here! The chips was good, it looked like it was naturally hewn from potatoes. It was cooked just right, and crispy too. I'd give it a 5. However, the serving of chips was slightly lacking, this part could do with some improvement. The chips were salted very well too, with a consistent covering. There was no salad, but I'm more than happy to review the mash we ordered as a side dish. The mash was pretty nice tasting, mashed from real potatoes. Got just the right amount of seasoning and butter in it. Pretty good, and I doubt that I could do a better job at home myself. Overall this is a pretty good parma, I have not had any other parmas in the immediate area so I'm not sure as to the quality of the competition here in Footscray. The parma was of pretty high quality, and you could tell that the chefs put in a lot of effort to get this right. The dish is not without its flaws though - I was a little bit "iffy" about having to order a side dish worth $3.50, and also the fact that there was no drink provided even though you may have spent $15.50 already. The size of the parma was not too big, if this pub was in the city, this WOULD need to be improved. Overall I loved it, and will be back again, despite my above reservations. But you'd have to hurry though, apparently this pub is going to be sold and subdivided soon...
