From the moment we sat down in the bar area at the Palmerston Hotel, my sidekick and I felt this unusual sensation, as if there was parma royalty in the room. Maybe the framed article on the wall had something to do with it - I don't know?! But what I do know is this was a good, solid parma. Not sure about the salad - I've had better - and the chips were good but there was room for improvement in terms of both quality and quantity, in my humble opinion.

Had a few Parma's at the Palmerston over the years and have generally been pleased with them . This one was okay but not sensational . Staff were very good though and looked after us

Well, I've been here before and I didn't think much of it and that was when it was in the top 5 so I wasn't expecting much, so I was pleasantly surprised. The parma was really nice, there's lots of cheese meting all over it, I thought this would turn me off it (because of the fat) but I really liked it. The chips were nice but not a lot of them. The salad (if your interested) was like one you'd made at home.... nothing special.... but the dressing on it had me coming back to finish it off. Overall, better than I thought. The picture is of my friend with.... well you should know who it is :)

how this joint has "Victorias No.1 Parma" on their window is an absolute disgrace. its blaspheme agains the name parma. not a positive thing to come out of that joint.. words cant describe my anger

"Have a Parmie at the Palmie" said the sign out the front, so i did. The meat was unusual in it's texture, the size of the parma was legit and the toppings were great. Not sure what went wrong with the chicken though-possibly frozen or maybe i copped a bad one. My partner had no complaints. Chips were quite astounding, not enough for me though. Salad looked like rabbit food-was ok at best. Nice little pub, get your chicken sorted and you'll score up in the 90% range. RIP Chief ton

The Parmas have always been perfect, however I like Mushroom gravy on my Parma which was a let down till about 6 months ago when they re invented the gravy since then its been the most perfect parma in the world

I have heard that The Palmerston Hotel is meant to have one of the best palma's in Melbourne, though I was disappointed. It was just ok, of average size, not many chips & salad was average.

I have been to this venue twice based on its reputation as having the "best chicken parma" in Victoria. The first time i was incredibly disappointed. The Parma was of production line standard- fried and then left in what i assume was a bain-marie warmer which kept the chicken moist but left the crumbs a sodden, tasteless and seasonless tepid goo. an unappetising texture on the palatte-the appearance was pallid more akin to something 'made in chernobyl' Against better judgement i decided that the reputation alone merited a second chance. same result. Unfortunately i believe its glowingly endorsed reputation has been its downfall. Mass produced garbage... and they think the parmi connoisseur wont notice. shame palmerston shame.

I had been to the Palmie a few years back and remembered it was very good but after reading a few reviews i was a little concerned. It was a good size of breast, excellent thickness and tenderness. Crumbing on the bottom was a little soggy and i thought there was too much cheese. The salad was disappointing, chopped up tomato, lettuce and cucumber. I'd try the vegies next time.

had a parma on mon night and it was fantastic. Real chicken, tasty napoli and heaps of cheese with a nice golden top. Must be a hit with the locals as the place was packed and most were eating parmas extra point for the baileys choc ripple cake yumm!

went to pub on tues night, great atmosphere and food was outstanding..The parma was fresh, juicy and the napoli was beautiful. Previous food critics have no idea what there talking about.

The Palmerston got 3 chances based on its reputation, but sadly the quality was way below par. The meal felt soggy with poor cheese / tomato ratio. The quantity of salad and chips felt like compensation to a mediocre meal, but the cheese tasted bland and rubbery, the tomato sauce straight from a can and the crumbs were like cardboard. Not recommended.

Really good piece of chicken, thick and tender. Maybe a little too much crumbing but the sauce, ham and cheese were very nice. Chips were nice and crispy. Great parma.

Expectations were high going into supposedly the "Number 1 Parma in Victoria"! Needless to say extremely disapointed. Chicken was slightly dry, a tad too small and toppings were all over the place. The salad had been diced as if it were for homemade burritos....

After reading so many glowing reviews f this place we had to make the trek over to that side of town in search of the ultimate parma. However we were somewhat disappointed. actually scrap that .....very disappointed. (We ordered the palmi parma) The parma arrived well presented, however the edges were a little burnt. The topping was good although there was a lack of it. probably needed about twice as much topping to made it a good parma. The chicken tasted like it was a litte under cooked - hard and chewy and not piping hot. I was inpressed with the addition of the ham though. On the whole - a reasonable parma - definately not worth driving across the city for especially if you're hungry...i could have eaten 2. -1 point for the lack of topping on the parma.

For something that was raved on about from past reviews on this website, I went into eating it with medium expectations of greatness, alas to be thoroughly disappointed. The chicken must be precooked very early in the day and then microwaved to heat with the almost tasteless napolitan sauce and boring cheese so that the chicken is soggy and tastes mushy on the plate! They must have changed cooks since last yr when past reviews have been written because the place was packed but the Parma a disgrace
